From the 18th of July this year till August 16th
(4 weeks in total) a group of 16 young adults from the parish will be traveling to Kampala, Uganda.
While this is very much a parish venture, we will be working for the organisation 'Fields of Life' while we are there. For the first 2 ½ weeks we will be painting a newly built primary school in one of the slum area of Kampala  and for the remainder of the time we will be running a sports camp for the kids of a different school. So some of the stuff we will be bringing with us will be a bag of painting stuff ( brushes, rollers etc) and the second extra bag we have will carry, soccer balls, pumps, kit etc.

Denice Butler, who has been organising this trip for us, has arranged with BA for 2 extra bags free of charge which will take all the extra stuff we have to bring with us ( we'll buy the paint there!)

Where we're staying

We will be staying in lovely accommodation - a guest house called 'Adonai house' run by Christians in Kampala and we have arranged a full board deal with them that is to the satisfaction of everyone! ( in other words it's good value!) If anyone is interested the website for the accommodation is: www.adonaihouse.com/

We are currently meeting bi weekly up at my house on Sunday evenings at 8 pm where we are working through the book 'The Jesus I never knew ' by Philip Yancey  (I highly recommend it!!)

My hope is that when we are there we will update the 'Africa' page on the new website daily with a kind of diary account of the previous day and maybe even photos! and anyone should be able to access it to see how we are doing.

What we need

Mostly we need your support and encouragement.

  • If anyone out there has a laptop they'd care to lend us for the four weeks that would be very helpful!!!
  • - we will also be bringing a video camera with us and I hope that we can get a film diary of the trip made and if anyone would like to sponsor us a few digital tapes that'd be great.

However the best thing that you can do for us is to
pray for us
from now on and for the duration of the trip. There's still a lot to organise and I believe absolutely in the power of prayer to protect a group like ours from any harm. Joe and Jean O'Sullivan have agreed to co-ordinate daily prayer for us while we are away and I believe this will be of immense value to us. You can contact them through the office or Baden.

Thanks

To everyone who has been so supportive and encouraging to us........you know who you are. And to Denice Butler who has already done a blinder and saved us a fortune on flights!!
